IMD is a UK-based law firm specializing in solving complex legal matters that require expertise across different international legal systems. Online, IMD operates through two distinct brands: IMD Solicitors, catering to individual clients, and IMD Corporate, focused on business services.

 

To reach clients across multiple countries, IMD previously managed 12 separate WordPress websites. While each was optimized for specific keywords, the brand required a visual refresh and a solution to the growing challenges of managing multiple web platforms.

Main Project Assumptions

Our challenge was to build a scalable website for a law firm with a global reach. How did we approach it?

  • High-level law firm SEO optimization. We launched the project knowing that a significant portion of IMD’s clients find them via Google search. The firm already held strong positions in multiple languages. Our goal was to optimize the content architecture to provide the firm with even better tools for building online visibility.
  • Improved readability and UX. IMD’s sites were content-rich, which supported law firm SEO for many keywords, but the technical structure was often flawed. The new project aimed to improve information architecture, making it easier for users to find legal assistance.
  • Consistent branding and modern legal industry web design. IMD’s goal was to continue operating under two brands: corporate and individual.   • Easier content and language management. Both services operate in six languages. Previously, each language required a separate WordPress installation. Managing content meant logging into 12 different backends, which was inefficient. The ideal solution was a multilingual WordPress website managed centrally.

    The Challenge

    A diligent approach to content and keywords meant that the IMD law firm website was already well-positioned and up to date. However, the firm struggled with technical errors and slow loading speeds. Finding specific content required excessive scrolling, and an outdated design hindered the user experience.

     

    Furthermore, the ecosystem’s structure created management hurdles. IMD used a fragmented approach where each language was a separate WordPress entity. The sites lacked shared resources or a central media library. Adding a new solicitor to the team required repeating the action 12 times. This workflow was resource-heavy.

     

    We wanted the new version of the site to be convenient for both administrators and users. Language switching needed to be seamless without losing the page context. We also prioritized accessibility for users with disabilities and ensured that the SEO for the legal industry was reinforced through a better technical structure.

    How We Improved User and Admin Experience for a Law Firm Website

      IMD’s websites were consolidated using WordPress Multisite. As a result, the firm’s entire digital ecosystem is now managed from a single administrative dashboard. This convenient solution saves time on content updates and multi-market management.

      We implemented a smooth language-switching mechanism that maintains the user's current context—users stay on the same substantive subpage after switching languages, a crucial feature for a multilingual WordPress website.
    • Visual Consistency

      Both sites maintain a consistent IMD brand identity while being tailored to their specific audiences through different communication tones, imagery, and section layouts.

    Project Workflow

    We began with an analysis of IMD’s sites and their competitors, examining how other firms communicate with their target groups. These findings were discussed during a strategic workshop. We also analyzed related industries like banking and consulting to refine a header concept that could accommodate multiple high-priority items.

    During prototyping, we developed two sets of wireframes (desktop and mobile) that served as the foundation for the law firm web design. The goal was a single, cohesive visual system adapted for both Solicitors and Corporate brands.

     

    Existing content, including services, photos, and documents, was then meticulously migrated. This process included standardizing formatting, optimizing headers, and maintaining a solid URL structure to ensure a seamless transition for both users and search engines.

     

    The launch of the new IMD platform was a complete operational and branding success. By using a WordPress Multisite architecture, the firm gained a central management system that reduced content update time by over 80%.
