Malanga had an old, unresponsive website that didn’t meet modern technological and aesthetic standards. Our task was to create a modern platform that automates sales processes and presents not always visually attractive products in an interesting way.

Main assumptions of the project

Malanga is a German trading company specializing in exporting products to the markets of Central and Eastern Europe. The inquiry process on their website is quite unusual: only users with accounts can submit quotes and view product details. Most of the products offered are presented in the form of pallets, which is a challenge both technically and graphically.

The complexity of the inquiry process and the unusual nature of the products have led to the Malanga.eu website not being updated for years. It didn’t work properly on mobile devices, and its management was difficult due to the lack of necessary functionalities.

We undertook the task of creating a new and user-friendly design and implementing advanced functionalities on the platform allowing for flexible product management and user management.

We are proud of how we managed to design the customer paths and present products that are difficult to present in an attractive way.

    The most important facts

    • Differentiated (personalized) versions of the website

Unlogged-in users see a different version of the website than those who have accounts. The product grid is available to everyone, but product details, prices and shopping cart are only visible to logged in users. Additionally, this version doesn’t have CTAs encouraging to create an account.
    • Automatic converter on the product page

On the platform, users report demand for pallets of products. Therefore, the administrator must be able to flexibly adjust the price, weight, and number of pieces in the set as every palett is diffetent. All values are recalculated automatically based on the underlying data. These settings are assigned to each product, which provides extensive product management options.
    • Different price levels

The more you buy, the less you pay for the product. The admin can set different price levels for different quantities of ordered products to encourage users to make larger orders.
    • Modified purchasing process

Purchases are made by submitting requests for quotation. This required significant modifications to both the purchasing process and the customer account settings. As part of this work, we added new fields, which made it possible to clarify the inquiry process.
    • Migration of over 3,000 customer accounts

We migrated over 3,000 customer accounts from the old, dedicated CMS to the new platform. The Malanga team wanted to transfer the accounts of current customers along with all their data, including assigned codes and inquiries. The migration made it easier for users to start using the new website.
    • Partial product migration

Our programmers wrote a script that allowed for the efficient transfer of key product elements from the previous content management system to the new website.

What was the work on the project like?

Wordpress development - working on website

We started the project with a thorough understanding of the expectations of the Malanga team. The unusual process of submitting requests for quotation and, above all, the advanced converters of the weight and the product price required detailed analysis. Thanks to it, we were able to design not only a practical solution for the user, but also a simple mechanism allowing the administrator to easily modify each product separately.

In the second step, after establishing the technical specifications, we prepared low-fi mock-ups in which we planned user paths, the process of submitting requests for quotation and design contact forms. We presented the mock-ups not only in graphic form, but also discussed them in a video presentation, where we could present our goals and vision in detail. This shortened the time needed to create the final version at this and the next stage of work.

Preparing and starting design work was a serious challenge. Thanks to exemplary cooperation and a thorough analysis of needs, we were perfectly aware of the effect our client wanted to achieve. The ideas and examples of solutions sent by the Malanga team also turned out to be extremely valuable, as they clearly defined the expectations for the future website. All this allowed us to smoothly complete the graphic design stage.

The project was also challenging from a programming perspective. Fortunately, thanks to precise specifications and an additional organised meeting with the client before the start of this phase, this stage was also a great success.

Malanga was one of the most interesting challenges we have faced in the last two years. This is a perfect example of an unusual use of WooCommerce and our next project in which we introduced significant modifications to the standard operation of the shopping cart. Thanks to personalized functionalities, managing the new website has become much simpler and faster.
