Wanicki Group had over 20 websites that required independent maintenance, which generated high costs. Employees responsible for the website had to have separate accounts on each site, which was inconvenient and time-consuming. As part of our cooperation with Wanicki Group, we unified and refreshed the websites and integrated them in a friendly WordPress MultiSite environment, which made their management much easier.

The most important facts and figures

  • The project is created with WordPress Multisite. It allows us to create a special role, super administrator who have access to all sites in the network without the need for a separate login. This solution not only increases data security, but also allows you to update plugins in all sites at the same time.
  • As part of the design phase, we prepared a parent theme (wanicki.pl) and a theme for brand sites. Each of these sites differs in terms of details and content, but they all use the same structure, which significantly reduced implementation costs.
  • The contact page is connected with an extensive contact database with all company employees contact information. There’s also an advanced search engine that lets users to use filters and helps them find the right employee
  • An additional menu has been placed next to the logo, allowing users to navigate the entire ecosystem. It is extremely easy to find the given site.
  • The geolocation function helps users quickly find the nearest workshop.
  • Selected parts of the ecosystem are available in two language versions, with the option of adding additional languages.

This project will be nominated for the DesignRush Best Graphic Design competition.

What was the challenge we faced?

The Wanicki Group is an authorized dealer for the sale and service of several dozen popular brands of trucks, municipal vehicles and agricultural equipment. The company operates throughout Poland. Partners’ products must be presented in a specific way on dedicated websites. These are strict requirements. As a result, our client had to maintain several dozen websites dedicated to different brands. This required separately performed, regular technical updates, attention to security and a lot of time.

The complex ecosystem and the different requirements for individual brands meant that plugins were updated at different times. This led to inconsistency: technical and visual, which was important for such a large group.

Our task was to organize the structure of the network, refresh the Wanicki Group sites and implement a WordPress Multisite to make managing the sites easier.

As a result of implementing the new solution, updating and maintaining the website is twenty times faster.

What was the work on the project like?

    • First step

The first step in the process was to analyze the current structure of the Wanicki Group website network and prepare a method for integrating all the elements. After listing all the sites, we divided them into categories and created the first site map.

Based on it, we decided to use WordPress Multisite.

    • Second step

One of the main challenges in this project was the issues associated with maintaining such a large number of websites: access to sites and passwords required a well-thought-out and complex organization. People responsible for security had to have access to each website and update them separately. With such a number of websites, this led to oversights and errors. On the other hand, different teams working on different brands needed access to selected sites.

Additionally, each brand has an extensive offer and dedicated services. The websites also differ in news sections, images, available language versions, and (when we started the project) their position in Google.

    • Third step

Those factors led us to choose WordPress MultiSite as a core of the solution. Thanks to this, it was possible to create a network of related sites, managed in a single dashboard, by a super administrator. Super administrator can access each site using a single login and password. However, each service can have assigned administrators and editors with access only to a selected area.

Sites linked in the MultiSite network have separate news sections, photo galleries and can operate under different domains or subdomains.

    • Fourth step

The next important step was design, aimed at unifying the entire network. The previous wanicki.pl website was significantly different from the brand sites and had issues with responsiveness, so we started work by designing a parent theme.

Based on it, we prepared a theme for the brand sites, which is a stripped-down version of the parent theme: it contains the same elements as the wanicki.pl website, but with additional elements of partner branding.

Creating a new theme based on an existing one allows for consistency and reduces coding costs. With several dozen websites, this was very important.
    • Result

After launching the new system and the full network of websites, the project was met with very positive feedback.

Moreover, it received international recognition. The Wanicki Group website won the prestigious Web Excellence Award, which honored both the scale of the project and the precision of its execution.

Wordpress development - programmer writing code for a website

The page has been coded using the Gutenberg editor, which allows the administrator to:

    • edit selected content,
    • change the structure of individual subpages by moving, removing and adding new blocks,
    • copy selected blocks to quickly add similar blocks,
    • copy entire pages or other types of content.

The last big challenge was the contact search engine. Wanicki Group employs several hundred people in a dozen or so branches. Moreover, individual employees are responsible for different regions, services and brands. Customers must be able to quickly find the phone number of the right employee.

That is why the contact page is an extensive database with a search system, thanks to which all the necessary information is provided to the customer on a plate.
